Do You Have Right Skills? Apply for Australia Skilled Independent Visa!

   Since long Australia, also known as the ‘Land of Kangaroos’ has grabbed the attention of 100s of 1000s of trained workers from every corner of the world. And, if you are one of those skilled workers who are influenced by the country’s thriving economy, high standard of living and ample number of job opportunities, then you must have the complete information about the Skilled Independent (Sub-class 189) Visa.

   Due to the presence of large number of immigrants, the country is ethnically diverse in nature. Coming back to Skilled Independent (Sub-class 189) Visa, it replaces Skilled-Independent Subclass 175 visa (off shore) and the Subclass 885 visa (onshore). It is basically a point based category and most suitable for those skilled workers who are not sponsored by an Australian employer, State or territorial government or family members.

   To apply, you are required to submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) using Skill Select. You can do the same either from inside or outside the Oz.

   Applicants are accepted by invitation only. Once you get an invitation, you will have a maximum of 60 days to apply online for the work visa. During this period, you cannot change the information given through the EoI.

Key Requirements
To apply, following are the primary requirements:
  1. The applicant must be 50 years or below at the time of submitting the application.

  2. Must be a practicing professional in any one occupation listed on the Australia Skilled Occupation List.
  3. Should be fluent in English and successfully submit an EoI.
  4. Must score at least 60 points on the points-grid.
  5. Should submit a health and character certificate.
  6. Should get their assessment done from the authorized authority.

  1. Live and work in the country indefinitely.
  2. Access Medicare healthcare facilities at subsidized rate and enjoy social benefits.
  3. Sponsor close family members for temporary or permanent residency.
  4. Once you successfully meet the criteria, you may apply for the Australian Citizenship and passport.
  5. Pursue higher studies.


   Initially, a successful applicant receives a visa for five years. During this time period, you can travel abroad any number of time. If you further intend to extend the visa validity, you need to stay in the country for at least two years, out of the five years. Alternatively, spend four consecutive years in the country and apply for Australian Citizenship.
